We first met at an outdoor arts festival near the Oktoberfest celebration in Huntington Beach around 2007. I remember opening Ali Sabet’s portfolio and being genuinely stunned by the level of craft, detail, and visual impact. I was so taken with the work that I immediately tried to buy as much of it as I could on the spot—pulling together whatever cash I had at the time. I was only able to acquire a few pieces, which over the years have remained with me, though I’ve also gifted some to close colleagues and friends. In that moment I even half-jokingly tried to figure out how I could pivot into becoming his agent, despite having no real background in art representation and a very full photography career already underway. To this day, I still hold onto a few of those original works and value them deeply. Ali Sabet’s work has always stood out to me as expressive, refined, and emotionally resonant—art that bridges cultures and connects with people in a very immediate way.
